Understanding your WHY

Okay so you want to build a business online. And you are working to build it up. Right up front in your mind is the thought of making thousands of dollars a month. Maybe you even have a massive goal to make a million dollars in a year. Judging by the success stories out there, it’s possible.

But what are you really pushing for?

Simon Sinek is a successful thought leader who suggests people “start with their Why”.

Everyone has a Why, he says. Sometimes it is not immediately clear. But you have it.

Your Why is the purpose, cause or belief that inspires you, he says. This is so important that Simon has written a best-selling book and compiled a course on working on and developing your Why.

Take those seeking to build a business online. Now there is a good chance you are jumping online to try to make money because you need financial help. Maybe you are broke with no savings. Maybe you want to be able to afford a holiday for your family. Maybe you dream of buying a BMW or even a Porsche.

When you are struggling from paycheck to paycheck, the idea of bringing in cash can be super exciting. It may help you ditch depression and focus on a sense of security.

Getting in two thousand, five thousand, ten thousand or even more a month could be a gamechanger, right?

But here’s the thing – very often there is an underlying cause or sense of Why you want to be doing this.

That Why may be giving your family security and giving your kids the chance to go to college. It may be paying off a large debt and putting aside substantial savings for a rainy day.

But your Why may be bigger than this – not that these things are not laudable.

Maybe you Why is to help other people have success. You might be a fitness coach with a dream of helping hundreds or thousands get fit and turn around their lives. You might be an internet marketer who wants to help other up-and-coming marketers build online businesses and improve their lives. You might be selling health products and advice that can potentially live better and more fulfilling lives.
Simon is on a mission to help people identify their Why – so people can be fulfilled by the work they do.

He imagines a world in which people go to work every day focused on making a difference, driven by a desire to improve things.

If you are beginning to build a business online, knowing or discovering your Why can be crucial.
Nine times out of ten it is not about the money. Sure, sure it really helps having a big stash of money in the bank. But it is much more about what that money will allow you to do.

And the more you focus on your Why, the more chance you will have success with your business.

You are less likely to jump out of bed every morning just to “earn a bit of cash”. But if you have set your goal as improving the lives of 100 people or a 1,000 people, then you’ve got a great reason to take action.
